Journalists Hezbollah

Exclusive: How a Fake “Journalists Killed” Story Spread Around The World

Groups like Hezbollah and Hamas systematically exploit the protections of civilian life, operating within communities, misusing protected symbols, and deliberately blurring their identity.

One of the clearest examples of this is the way media protections are abused.

Yet time and again, sections of the media fall back into the same pattern, repeating claims of “journalists killed” with little attempt to test them.

The global media frenzy this week, following Israel’s claim that it had targeted Hezbollah operatives posing as journalists, fits that same familiar pattern.

Here Is What Happened

On 28 March 2026, during the conflict with Hezbollah, Israel struck a vehicle on the Jezzine highway in southern Lebanon, killing the three people inside – Ali Shoeib, Fatima Ftouni and her brother, Mohammed Ftouni.

Israel stated that Shoeib, who worked as a journalist for the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar outlet, was in fact a Hezbollah intelligence operative involved in exposing Israeli troop positions and supporting attacks. Israeli media also pointed to Hezbollah links within the Ftouni family.

The Global Media Frenzy

The international response was immediate and intense. Headlines across major outlets led with “three journalists killed”, while press groups condemned the strike as a “war crime”:

Israel’s claim that at least one of those targeted was a Hezbollah operative was downplayed, with coverage instead centring on the narrative of journalists under attack.

This creates a clear divide. On one side are Israeli intelligence assessments, based on sustained operations against Hezbollah’s leadership and infrastructure. On the other is a media ecosystem that has, time and again, repeated claims originating from within terrorist propaganda networks with limited scrutiny.

It is one thing to argue that Israel has not publicly provided evidence. Israel is under no obligation to do so. It is quite another to promote a story presenting those killed as journalists, cast doubt on Israel’s account, and ignore publicly available material that suggests those claims may have merit. That is no longer journalism. It is advocacy that chooses to ignore inconvenient facts.

So I went looking for myself. And once again, it did not take long to find material that suggests major outlets had failed to carry out even basic checks before amplifying the “innocent journalists killed” story.

A Terrorist’s Sister

The first account I found belonged to Fatima Ftouni. This “journalist” had openly shared content on social media celebrating the atrocities of October 7, and other terrorist attacks on Israelis. On 27 January 2023, when a terrorist slaughtered seven Jews outside a synagogue in Jerusalem, Ftouni posted a celebration:

The text reads “Photos of the Israeli dead… 8 killed… A beautiful night in Jerusalem.”

This does not establish any operational role. But it does provide insight into the environment and mindset surrounding those presented simply as “journalists”. Someone who openly celebrates the killing of civilians in this way is not operating within any framework we would normally associate with journalism.

It was through Fatima Ftouni’s timeline that I stumbled across even more damning evidence, on the Facebook page of Mohammed Ftouni, her brother.

Mohammed Ftouni: The Hezbollah Terrorist

Mohammed Ftouni was not trying to hide his associations. In May 2024, a friend of his was killed fighting for Hezbollah. On his public Facebook page, Ftouni posted images of the two of them together as part of a dedication:

And another image of them together on a motorbike:

mohammad.ftouni

In both images, Mohammed Ftouni is shown in military-style clothing, standing in a posed stance alongside Hezbollah flags. He is shown alongside Mohamed Ali Boutam, a Hezbollah fighter who was killed in clashes with Israeli forces in May 2024.

Mohammed Boutam - Hezbollah

This is not incidental imagery. It places Ftouni in direct association with a confirmed member of Hezbollah’s armed wing, while he himself is wearing military-style clothing.

A Breach of Trust

This is far from the first time that a lone researcher working from a small room in North London has uncovered material that major media organisations chose to ignore. Last year there was a media frenzy over “famine” photos of children, yet basic checks showed that the cases being circulated involved children with underlying illnesses.

Time after time, the media presents demonising stories about Israel, that do not withstand even simple independent scrutiny.

This case is no different. The facts were there, publicly available and easy to find.

The real question is not whether the information existed, but why so many chose to ignore it.

  1. The intention of most of western media is, as you probably know and deliberately shield us from, is basic traditional antitsemitism and wishing the worst for Israel in 98% of its reporting. After all when was the last time we read a favourable report from Israel by BBC or CNN? I have noticed a schizophrenic reaction of reporting about Israel in all in wars from 1948 to date. In particular brief, but never long lasting for sure, admiration for perceived weak vulnerable Israel in the early days of surprised success. It was particularly flagrant before & during the 6 day war and was echoed in the public too. Its duration. 6 months at most when they reverted to type.
The fundamental “problem” amogst mostly Chritians is still a absolute “horror” of having to view a strong capable Jewish State. As “under dogs” they tolerate the State within strict limitations, but never wish it well.

  2. I was seriously considereing making a decent subscription. However, before I had, what I thought a valid comment to submit to the useful article of Mr Collier. To my consrernation the reply was not registered and has not appeared after about 2.5 hours. I tried again with same negative result. Many will agree that this failure to reply to his designated Comments section does not inspire confidence or wish to participate in his valiant efforts. Hopefully he will reply and explain if comments are really accepted or even wanted ?

    1. I receive numerous abusive messages to this blog, along with the occasional death threat. That aside from the countless pieces of spam.
I am also just me – not an organisation – so I am not capable of sitting and monitoring this feed constantly.

I set it up so that new posters are moderated – filtered – and await me checking to make sure they are neither abusive nor threatening.
As a first time poster – this is probably what caught you.
After their first post is accepted – posters should be free to post automatically – as long as other filters are not triggered (multiple links in a post etc)…

I never stop comments, or delete them – and allow both for and against. Free speech has always been important to me – and it is unusual for a pro-poster to criticise me over this – but hey, here you go.

I hope that answers your question.
